Very very true. I think that this country has very unrealistic expectations. Sure, Obama had a great platform… “Change”. But really, he isn’t going to achieve much of what he had planned. Their is no magic band-aid that he can use to fix the country.

…It will be interesting to see public opinion drop when everyone figures out that Obama is only a man. lol. I too wish him the best, but as you say, he is not the Messiah.

The greater your expectations the more likely you will be disappointed. I think people are expecting too much from one man - he is after all a politician - they will be disappointed and turn on him. I think what's going to happen is that the hope bubble is going to burst, and people will be pissed off that all their problems weren't solved by the summer of 2009. (We are Americans, after all. Patience is not our greatest virtue.) But if we can move beyond that, people in this country might actually grow up a little and stop with the "I get to do whatever I want" mentality that has hurt us so much since the 1980s. I find it interesting in all a lot of the blog posts I've seen since his election, a laundry list of things people want him to do starting day one. If they think he (and he alone) can do everything right NOW, they are setting themselves up for a major disappointment. I agree. I think Obama will be a good president, but we needed "good" a long time ago. At this point, we'd really need a miracle to fix everything in four years, and it's not realistic to expect Obama to live up to that. We can only hope he does the best he can. I wish him luck. So many people are looking for Obama to be a panacea for all their problems. Damn, I am afraid that I have to agree as well, and I really didn't want to as I wanted to add some spice to the comments, but I would be a liar if I had said otherwise. I reckon that way too many people are pinning way too much hope on the efforts of one man, regardless of his team. This can only result in disappointment and a modicum of bitterness against the efforts of a man who has taken on one hell of a job, something that I am sure he is aware of.
